Planting Day 2011

Well, it seems I completely neglected to blog about my garden last year...oops. To catch you up, I have rounded out my main garden that used to be a rectangle and created two smaller gardens on either side of it, a flower and an herb garden respectively.

This year, in the round veggie garden I planted:
  • Cucumbers
  • Cantaloupe
  • Romain Lettuce
  • Carrots
  • Sweet Onions
  • Radishes
  • Watermelon
  • Cauliflower
  • Peas
  • Blue Lake Beans
  • Strawberries
  • Broccoli
(Starting at the row located at 5:00 and going clockwise- cantaloupe, lettuce, carrots, onions/radishes, watermelon, cauliflower, peas/beans, strawberries, broccoli, and cucumbers)

In the side herb garden, I have:
  • Mugwort
  • Hyssop
  • Sage
  • Thyme
  • Cilantro
And more is to come- as I am sure you can see by the vast hole to the left in the picture below. I will be adding basil, oregano, and rosemary.(From right to left: Mugwort, Hyssop, Sage, Thyme, and Cilantro-just planted)

This year I am also trying something new- the Topsy Turvy tomato grower since my tomatoes always get too heavy for the vine and end up snapping before they are ripe, even with all the staking and supports... :-(

So here is a picture of my beautiful little Early Girl tomato.
And last but not least, a picture of my cherry tomato plant- yum yum :-)

And For anyone wondering why my herb garden soil is red while the garden soil is black, I added compost to the veggie garden. I don't add it to the herb garden though because, let's face it, herbs are just tasty weeds and they can grow in nearly anything :-)
